What are custom branded short URLs and how do they work?

1. What are short links and why use them instead of long links?

Long links look like this:

 https://www.calendar.com/booking/schedule?source=sms&campaign=fall2026

While short links look like this:

https://go.yourcompany.com/abc123
    • Practical Benefits

      • ✅ Easier to read
      • ✅ Shorter messages → lower SMS usage
      • ✅ Looks cleaner and more professional

2. Why use a Custom Branded URL instead of public shorteners (e.g. Bitly or TinyURL)?

      • Practical Benefits

          • ✅ Customers instantly recognize your brand
          • ✅ Builds trust
          • ✅ Looks more professional
          • ✅ Higher click rates
      • TCPA Compliance & Deliverability Benefits

          • ⚠️ Wireless carriers treat public link shorteners as higher risk because:
            • These URLs are not associated with your brand
            • These URLs are often used by scammers or other malicious third parties
          • ⚠️ Use of public shorteners can lead to:
            • Spam blocks
            • Filtering of your messages
          • ✅ Using your own custom branded URL improves SMS deliverability or any issues with the carriers.

3. How link shortening works

  1. You give us a URL to add to your Meera script.
  2. Whenever the link is sent, our messaging system (powered by Twilio) automatically converts the link to a unique URL on your branded domain.
  3. Your lead clicks the short link.
  4. They are instantly redirected to the original URL.

4. Setup requirements and overall process

Step 1:  Choose a Subdomain and let us know

ℹ️ What is a subdomain?

A subdomain is a bit of text added in front of your website address.
Example:

yourcompany.com (main website)

links.yourcompany.com (subdomain)

Step 2:  Update your domain's DNS Settings

ℹ️ What is DNS?

DNS is the system that tells the internet where your website is hosted.  It’s usually managed by:

  • Your website host

  • Your domain provider (GoDaddy, Google Domains, etc.)

  • Your IT/web company

We will simply give you a few lines to copy and paste called CNAME records.

You do not need to understand how they work — just where to paste in the text record.  If you don't know how to update your DNS, we're happy to help via screen share!

Step 3:   We activate your custom short URL! 👍

5. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will this affect my main website?
No!  This will not interfere with any of your existing website functions.
  • Can I change the subdomain later?
Yes, but it requires updating DNS again. We recommend choosing carefully at the start.
  • Will I need to change anything else on my end?
No!  Once we've enabled it, the URL shortening will happen automatically on our end.
