Opt-Out Management: Hard DNC and Soft DNC Explained
Hard DNC (Do Not Contact)
Hard DNC keywords are formal opt-out requests.
When a contact sends one, Meera automatically processes the opt-out, adds the number to a permanent block list, and stops all future communication.
This is enforced at the carrier level and cannot be overridden.
Examples Include:
-
STOP
-
STOPALL
-
UNSUBSCRIBE
-
CANCEL
- QUIT
-
END
Note: Meera also recognizes platform-level opt-out signals beyond the industry-standard keywords above, including references to death, wrong number, or abusive language. These are not carrier-enforced but are handled automatically by the platform.
Soft DNC (Expressions of Disinterest)
Soft DNC phrases indicate disinterest from the contact or lead without making it a formal opt-out. The lead is closed out, but the contact is not permanently blocked.
Examples include:
- Not Interested
- Already a Customer
- Already Spoke to Someone
- Chose Another Option
- Did Not Request Info
- Interested for Future
- Location Issue
- Unqualified
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Hard DNC and Soft DNC?
Hard DNC is a permanent opt-out. The contact is blocked and cannot be messaged again. Soft DNC signals disinterest without permanently removing the contact.
What happens if a contact sends a Hard DNC keyword?
The platform processes the opt-out automatically, adds the number to a permanent block list, and stops all future messages to that contact.
Can a contact be re-engaged after sending a Hard DNC keyword?
No, once a contact is permanently blocked, they cannot be messaged again unless they reply with "Resubscribe" to opt back in.
Can a Soft DNC contact be messaged again?
Yes. Since Soft DNC doesn't trigger a permanent block, the contact can be re-engaged through a different campaign.
